In April 2022, it was announced that the Netflix movie The Battle of Absolute Dominion would film the majority of its runtime at the closed Terrible's Hotel & Casino in Jean.
The movie, which has a post-apocalyptic plot set in 2085, is being produced by Blumhouse Productions.
Blumhouse is well-known for horror suspense films such as Paranormal Activity, Insidious, The Purge, and the latest Halloween trilogy.
The film's production, which will bring more than 700 jobs to Southern Nevada, makes good use of the vacated property while it sits idle.
The site is slated for demolition for the development of a new industrial park on the site.
Film companies often look for buildings that have demolition planned as they can make use and damage the buildings for a lower production cost.
The Terrible's property is also in an unpopulated, desert landscape which aids in creating a desolate, post-apocalyptic setting.
So while Terrible's Hotel & Casino is in its final chapter before its demise, it will live on through the magic of cinema.
The producers of The Battle of Absolute Dominion filed their production and filming plans with the state of Nevada.
They are seeking more than $1.8 million in tax incentives for film, which has a production budget of $12.8 million.
The Battle of Absolute Dominion has a relatively modest budget for a Hollywood film. Still, it will be a boon for the local Southern Nevada area during the film’s scheduled Spring 2022 production.
Spring is a good time to film in the desert as you can have longer days and plenty of sunshine without the triple digit temperatures.
