Buffalo Bill's Resort & Casino in Primm will reopen on December 24, 2010 says owner Herbst Gaming. The property has been closed temporarily since November 29, 2010 for renovations of the 1,242 rooms and portions of the casino. All gaming areas, shops, restaurants and the Desperado roller coaster have been closed during the period. Only the 6,500–seat Star of the Desert Arena, which is on the property, has remained open.

Herbst Gaming also operates the other two casino/hotels in Primm: Whiskey Pete's Hotel & Casino and Primm Valley Resort. Hotel guests who made reservations at Buffalo Bill's during the renovation period were moved to either of the two other properties. Whiskey Pete's and Primm Valley Resort have a combined 1,501 rooms.

A Renovated Property

The renovations at Buffalo Bill's include remodeled guest rooms and energy–efficient light bulbs in Buffalo Bill's interior. A Denny's Restaurant is being added replacing the property's coffee shop. About 250 employees who work at Herbst Gaming's properties in Primm have been affected by the closure. Some will take vacation days while others are being furloughed.

The closure has allowed Herbst Gaming to condense operations. Late fall and winter tend to be a slower time of year for visitors to Primm. Herbst Gaming has previously closed properties for renovations or lack of business during this time of year. Herbst Gaming, which recently filed for bankruptcy, is now owned by a Connecticut–based hedge fund.
